Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen: What is the ultimate Pride and Prejudice cast? From Colin Firth and Keira Knightley to Laurence Olivier and Alison Steadman, which actors would you hand pick for the ultimate Pride and Prejudice screen adaptation? Vote now...

Jane Austen's sunniest novel Pride and Prejudice celebrates its 200th anniversary on Monday. And it's got us thinking...

The iconic love story has sparked numerous adaptations, from the classic Laurence Olivier version to the 2005 romantic blockbuster starring Keira Knightly and Rosamund Pike. (It even inspired Helen Fielding to pen Bridget Jones's Diary...) But if you could hand pick actors from across the best-loved film and TV adaptations to make an ultimate cast of characters, who would you choose?

Do you firmly believe no other Darcy could beat Colin Firth emerging from that lake in a wet shirt? Is Keira Knightley's pouty performance in the 2005 your favourite Lizzie Bennet? Maybe Alison Steadman's shrieking Mrs Bennet strikes you as the best? Or perhaps bare-chested Johnny Wickham in the upbeat Bollywood adaptation Bride and Prejudice is your favourite?

Henry Cavill's early life and work led to iconic Superman role HENRY CAVILLJANUARY 21, 2013BY: ZACK MANDELL (EXAMINER)

Henry Cavill has had a lot of success in Hollywood in recent years, but he almost didn't become an actor. He was born May 5, 1983 on the English island of Jersey, the fourth of five sons. Cavill first attended St. Michael's Preparatory School but was later was sent to a Buckinghamshire boarding school. It was there that he took part in school plays and developed a love for acting. However, his first choice of career was to study Egyptology at a university and then join the military.

These plans changed when casting directors came to the school in search of a young man to play the role of Albert Mondego in 2002's "The Count of Monte Cristo." Cavill had been starring in some local plays and was gaining some acclaim. He would later appear in "Hellraiser: Hellworld" (2005), "Tristan & Isolde" (2006), and "Red Riding Hood" (2007). By late 2007, Cavill was tapped to play the part of Charles Brandon in the Emmy Award winning Showtime drama, "The Tudors." This was a tremendous break for the young actor, as he had just recently missed out on several iconic roles which could have made his career.

The list is striking. Cavill lost the role of Bruce Wayne to Christian Bale for "Batman Begins." James Bond went to Daniel Craig for "Casino Royale," and the role of Cedric Diggory in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" was given to Robert Pattinson. One of the main issues concerning his loss of the Wayne and Bond roles was Cavill's age. After his "Tudors" success, many entertainment industry publications lauded him as the next big actor to watch. Since he had previously been dubbed one of the unluckiest men in Hollywood, this was a welcome change.

Cavill lost out to Robert Pattinson a second time for the role of Edward Cullen in the film adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's "Twilight." While Pattison became a global star, Cavill continued working steadily. Cavill had also been considered and even screen tested for the role of Superman in "Superman: Flyby," a project that was scrapped. Luck would have it that Warner Bros. selected the "Batman" reboot team of Christopher Nolan and David Goyer to head another Superman movie project in the hope that it would be more successful than Bryan Singer's 2008 "Superman Returns."

'Quartet' illuminates no matter the age (PHILLY.COM)

STEVEN REA, INQUIRER MOVIE COLUMNIST AND CRITIC
POSTED: Thursday, January 24, 2013, 2:31 PM

'Old age ain't no place for sissies," Bette Davis once famously observed. In Quartet, set in a Georgian-style mansion on a lovely patch of English countryside, the "ain't" has been changed to a more proper "is not." But still, the point is clear: Even here at Beecham House, a stately home for retired musicians, getting old is a challenge.

The body breaks down, and sometimes the mind. And memories of past glory rush back to remind you that there's not much glory happening at present.

Adapted by Ron Harwood from his stage play, and directed - in a smart and accomplished debut - by Dustin Hoffman, Quartet is a charming and poignant investigation into the autumn years in which four friends, former opera company stars, come together to put on a show. Of course, there are obstacles to surmount along the way: Jean Horton (the ever droll and beguiling Maggie Smith), a reluctant new arrival at Beecham House, long ago broke the heart of Reginald Paget (Tom Courtenay), a dapper chap who is not happy to see Jean again.

Meanwhile, the bubbly Cissy (Pauline Collins) is showing signs of Alzheimer's - forgetfulness, disorientation - and the randy Wilf (Billy Connolly) has prostate issues. A hopeless flirt, Wilf's nonstop come-ons to Beecham's female staff, and to the attractive young doctor who runs the place (Sheridan Smith), would be offensive if his lechery weren't so benign. A man with a waggish smile and a Scottish brogue can be forgiven much.

Hayley Atwell to star in second series of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror Details of the three very different new episodes have been released MATILDA BATTERSBY (INDEPENDENT)

Black Mirror the unusual satirical drama written by journalist-come-television writer Charlie Brooker will return to Channel 4 this year for a second series consisting of three dark episodes.

Restless actress Hayley Atwell will star in the first of the trio, each of which will once again have “a different cast, a different setting, even a different reality”, according to Brooker. In an interview in December he said: "Like the last series we've done three stories that are three different genres. We've also got all sorts of unpleasant things and also one of them is very sad.”

In Be Right Back Atwell appears as Martha alongside Domhnall Gleeson, her social media junkie boyfriend Ash. He is tragically killed just after the couple move to a remote cottage and Martha soon becomes aware of a creepy new social network that allows grieving relatives to communicate with the digital semblance of the deceased. Disgusted, but compelled by it, Martha, who discovers she is pregnant with Ash’s child, becomes embroiled in a murky world of online ‘ghosts’.

Matthew Macfadyen and Game of Thrones' Jerome Flynn Talk Ripper Street It’s a bloody good time on Ripper Street. by Roth Cornet JA (IGN)

“A lot comes out about his past,” Flynn says of Drake. “He's this wounded boy from the lower class who had a broken childhood, and he's got a lot of demons he picked up from then and from fighting in Egypt in the war. So he's in battle with those parts of himself, and yet there's a real heart to the man, which gets melted by women.”

Flynn’s character has a particular affection for Reid that is tested both by Reid’s attachment to the American Jackson (whom Drake has a great disdain for) and the ghosts of his past rearing their less-than-savory heads.

“He had a Colonel from the army who he served and was extremely loyal to who comes back and tries to get him to cross over to the other side of the law,” Flynn says. “Inspector Reid has become a new father figure, so Drake has got really split loyalties. A lot of the soldiers, as they are now, come back having fought for their Kingdom and risking their lives and are not being looked after, and many end up on the street. A lot of the homeless, as today, come from the army, so that falls on him. He has to face these things that have been festering in him, and what he saw and what he went through in Egypt. As well as the fact that he's fallen in love with this prostitute and he's putting all of his eggs in that basket and setting himself up for a big fall. She kind of plays him along and uses him a bit. It's sad.”

All of the characters will be dealing with unfolding tales of woe, it seems.

“Reid has a painful journey,” Macfadyen says. “He has a lot of anger and sadness that he's bottled up to do with his family, and that's sort of revealed.” Reid has made a “huge error” with his daughter, who has gone missing, and must play that out over the series. There are hints that her disappearance may have something to do with the Ripper, but Macfadyen promises that the series will never offer a trite and manufactured “Ripper reveal.” Jack was never caught, and the premise of the show is to explore how his specter haunts the police and the East End community.

“Also, Jackson's background is fascinatingly dense; there are things that he's hiding from Reid,” The actor says. “Reid really likes him and wants him on his side. He doesn't really care that he's a whoring, untrustworthy American. He just thinks him brilliant. Drake and Jackson, on the other hand, hate each other from the get go. It becomes extremely problematic as the series goes on.”

Absolutely Fabulous... the movie? Joanna Lumley confirms partner in comedy Jennifer Saunders IS penning a screenplay (MAIL ON LINE)

Absolutely Fabulous film due out 'in time for 2014 Oscars'

'Is champers all right with you, Pats?', 'Lovely darling.'

The unmistakeably posh lexicon of hit TV series Absolutely Fabulous, also known as Ab Fab, is set to return to screens as soon as next year, in the form of a feature film, it has been revealed.

The woman behind lead character Patsy Stone - a botox, champagne and drug addicted magazine editor - has confirmed an Ab Fab movie is on the way.

Joanna Lumley, 66, confirming the news reported in the Mail last year that a film was in the pipeline, told the Telegraph: 'We've talked about it, Jennifer [Saunders] is writing the film.

'Although yesterday the press were saying it's a musical now! But whatever it is, I'll be there.'

She also said while she's alive no-one but her will play Patsy, even if that means brushing up on her all but non-existent singing and dancing skills.

James Dempsey : Why we should give Daniel Day Lewis some peace (INDEPENDENT)

By James Dempsey
Saturday January 26 2013

This weekend marks the Irish release of Lincoln, director Steven Spielberg's biopic of the American president's efforts to outlaw slavery and end the civil war in the final few months of his life.

A project eight years in the making, recounting the shady dealings often required to turn ideological moralities into political realities, Lincoln is a chamber piece of subtle speeches and exquisite performances. And in the same week as Barack Obama's second inauguration, Lincoln's political toing and froing feels distinctly fresh and timely.

To the forefront of the film, of course, is Daniel Day Lewis' work as Honest Abe, in what is perhaps the quietest and most restrained performance of the esoteric actor's career. It should come as no surprise that the most-celebrated actor of his generation playing the most-celebrated American president of all time has already resulted in mass award celebrations.

Day Lewis, famous for living for months on end in character, originally turned down the role, concerned that he couldn't do justice to this idol of American politics. But after tireless campaigning by the director, Day Lewis signed on. Perhaps it was written in the stars – who better to play the man whose face graces the penny and five dollar-bill than the man whose face has appeared on an An Post stamp?

Of course, awards' season presents its own nationalistic difficulties with regard to Day Lewis. The son of an Irish-born Poet Laureate to Queen Elizabeth II, raised and educated in England's green and pleasant land, Day Lewis made his way across the Irish Sea in 1989, taking up dual citizenship in 1993.

As such, we Irish have taken him to our hearts, and at times have become rather militant about it. When The Daily Mail listed the actor among the "Britons" to have found triumph at the Golden Globes earlier this month, the furore was felt across social media.

Martin Freeman praises fantastic scripts on BBC's Sherlock By David Bentley on January 25, 2013 6:04 PM (COVENTRY TELEGRAPH)

Martin Freeman says Sherlock is one of the best shows he has worked on.

The Hobbit actor stars in the BBC drama as Dr John Watson, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as detective Sherlock Holmes.

"Sherlock is one of the best written things I'll ever do. If I live to 100, I won't do many things that are better written than Sherlock," he said.

"Same with The Office, which was a perfect half-hour of comedy for my taste. As a fan, I'd like it."

Martin admits he looks for both physical and intellectual challenges in roles.

"Dr John's quite physical because he's a soldier, so he's a man of action, he's handy with a gun and has been shot on the battlefield.

"When something is well written and you get to run around and fire guns and chase people but also have fantastic dialogue, that's when it's most pleasurable."

Sherlock will be back on BBC1 for a third three-part series in 2013.

Ripper Street: BBC gets it right again with this ripping good unsettling yarn JOHN DOYLE The Globe and Mail Published Friday, Jan. 25 2013, 5:00 PM EST Last updated Friday, Jan. 25 2013, 7:23 PM EST

The good, gruesome new Brit drama Ripper Street (Saturday, Space, 9 p.m.) is set in 1889 and yet feels both contemporary and very familiar.

For the umpteenth time in movies and TV, we’re taken back to the era of Jack the Ripper – the filthy, teeming streets of London, brothels, bodices and earnest police officers trying to use new technology and forensic evidence to solve crimes.

The sense of the contemporary was emphatic in the opening episode. The setting was the period when Jack the Ripper seemed to have stopped his killing spree, and viewers first saw a ghoulish bit of tourism unfold – people were being led around East London to see the exact spots where the Ripper’s victims were found. At the same time, there was an avid tabloid press competing for new information about the serial killer.

A body was found. It looked like the Ripper’s work, but was it? It was the task of Police Inspector Edmund Reid (Matthew Macfadyen), his Detective Sergeant Drake (Jerome Flynn from Game of Thrones) and Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg), a former Pinkerton detective and U.S. Army surgeon, to determine what was going on.

The seediness and depravity of London during the period was on full display (in the U.K., where Ripper Street has been airing recently on the BBC, there were many complaints from viewers about some gory, blood-soaked scenes), and the series continues to be unafraid to disturb.

The second episode airs on Saturday – you can find the pilot on demand – and it becomes clear that each episode is both an excellent mystery and highlights a key aspect of the period in which it is set. The first episode dwelt much on the arrival of commercial pornography. This one deals with the role of children in the late Victorian period.

Gerard Butler + Ryan Kavanaugh Attend ‘Movie 43′ After Party at Madame Tussauds (HAUTE LIVING)

It might be an odd choice for an after party, but those who attended the shindig celebrating Relativity Media’s Farrelly Brothers-directed Movie 43 seemed to be enjoying themselves.

The venue of choice was Madame Tussauds Hollywood, where stars were able to pose with wax figures while imbibing Purity Vodka cocktails (a disastrous situation, for some) and noshing on bites themed to the movie, such as luscious round of melons, big beefy balls and chili beanery.

Gerard Butler eschewed posing with waxwork, opting instead to hang out with Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and rough house with Neil McDonough.

Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart: British actors heading to Broadway (WASHINGTON TIMES)

By Mark Kennedy-Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — Serious theater fans have a reason to suddenly freak out: Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart will team up on Broadway this fall in two of the most iconic plays of the 20th century.

Producers announced Thursday that Mr. Stewart and Mr. McKellen will star in Harold Pinter’s “No Man's Land” and Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot” in repertory under the direction of Sean Mathias.

The Broadway theater, performance dates, the two supporting actors and the schedule of performances will be announced later.

Mr. Stewart and Mr. McKellen starred in a production of “Waiting for Godot” in London’s West End in 2009. Prior to Broadway, they’ll tackle “No Man's Land” in an as-yet-unspecified out-of-town tryout this summer.

Mr. Mathias told The Associated Press all three men struggled to make “Waiting for Godot” as honest and realistic as possible — an approach they’ll likely replicate with Pinter’s play.

“What we tried to do, with so much effort, was make it real. Make them human beings, compassionate, funny, flawed and vulnerable and cocky — all the things human beings are,” Mr. Mathias said. “We never wanted to make it esoteric. I’m sure this is how we will approach the Pinter as well.”

Richard Armitage: Fans in clamour for actor to become king Wednesday, January 23, 2013 Leicester Mercury Follow By Gemma Peplow

Leicestershire actor Richard Armitage has spoken several times about his interest in King Richard III and ideas to tell his story on the big screen or on the stage.

And his own army of fans from all corners of the world are right behind him.

Roswitha Gerhart, who lives in Munich, Germany, has co-launched an online "support network" for a film or theatre production, and more than 1,100 fans have signed up.

Richard Armitage, who most recently played dwarf Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit, was named after the last Plantagenet king, and has spoken about his story in many publications – including the Leicester Mercury's More magazine last month.

During the interview, he said: "I managed to get home and see my parents in Huncote when we finished filming The Hobbit in New Zealand.

"It was just as they were finding the Richard III bones in that car park. I'm excited to hear about the findings of this DNA, I've watched with interest.

"Richard III, now that's a play. I was named after him. My father's a historical fanatic about his character and I've inherited that enthusiasm, but I know by the time I get the chance I'll be too old and too tall to play the role.

"I'd somehow like to realise that part of history."

Liam Neeson to take his seat at pupils' tribute movie Red carpet treatment for Hollywood star as Ballymena salutes local hero (BELFAST TELEGRAPH)

By Chris Kilpatrick
Thursday, 24 January 2013

He's no stranger to film premieres. But Hollywood A-lister Liam Neeson will settle into his seat for a very different movie screening in the coming days.

Pupils from his old school in Ballymena, along with students from a nearby college, have put together a special production documenting Neeson’s life which will be screened at a red carpet ceremony marking his freedom of the Co Antrim town.

The teenagers from St Patrick’s College and Northern Regional College teamed up to produce, direct and star in a film tribute to the Oscar-nominated actor.

The short film documents Neeson’s rise to stardom, from taking part in school plays at St Patrick’s College to becoming one of the best-known actors in the world.

It includes interviews with those who knew him as a child, fellow actors from the Slemish Players drama group and old sparring partners from All Saints Boxing Club where Neeson showed considerable promise as a teenager.

Benedict Cumberbatch - Assange savages film about WikiLeaks (THE AGE)

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says a film about his whistle-blowing website is propaganda designed to fan the flames of a war against Iran.

The Fifth Estate, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, is due to be released in November.

Assange on Wednesday night said WikiLeaks had managed to get hold of a copy of the script of the DreamWorks movie.

And he doesn't like what he's read.

"It is a mass propaganda attack against WikiLeaks the organisation," the 41-year-old Australian told students in Oxford via a video-link from the Ecuadorean embassy in London.

"But it is not just an attack against us – it is an attack against Iran.

"It fans the flames to start a war with Iran."

In tomorrow night's episode of Cabin Pressure, Carolyn is going on holiday, leaving her tiny charter airline, MJN Air, in the 'capable' hands of her crew Martin, Douglas - and Arthur, who is put in charge of the fictional fax machine. But by the sounds of this preview clip of tomorrow's episode the crew are, indeed, under pressure following Margaret's strict instructions on how to run the ship (or, er...plane).

Check out Benedict Cumberbatch as Wikileaks' Julian Assange in 'The Fifth Estate' -- FIRST LOOK by Adam B. Vary (EW)

The year of Benny Batch continues! DreamWorks announced today that principal photography has commenced on its heretofore untitled feature film about the creation of the controversial website WikiLeaks and its co-founder and international fugitive Julian Assange. Now titled The Fifth Estate, the film traces the meteoric rise of the site through the eyes of Assange colleague Daniel Domscheit-Berg. He’s played by Inglourious Basterds‘ Daniel Brühl, who’s pictured above with Benedict Cumberbatch as Assange in the first official image from the film. Bleached white hair is eerily becoming on Mr. Cumberbatch, is it not?

Director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Kinsey, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) and screenwriter Josh Singer (Fox’s Fringe, NBC’s The West Wing) have based the screenplay in part on Domscheit-Berg’s book Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange and the World’s Most Dangerous Website, as well as WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy by British journalists David Leigh and Luke Harding.

Matthew Macfadyen plays it straight on 'Ripper Street' on BBC America (Philly.com)

Ellen Gray, Daily News TV Critic
POSTED: Wednesday, January 23, 2013, 3:01 AM
* RIPPER STREET. 9 p.m. Saturdays, BBC America.

PASADENA, Calif. - You might not guess it to see him as Mr. Darcy to Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Bennet in "Pride & Prejudice" or the somber Victorian London police Inspector Edmund Reid in BBC America's new "Ripper Street," but Matthew Macfadyen sometimes has trouble keeping a straight face.
In fact, Jerome Flynn ("Game of Thrones"), who plays Reid's sergeant in "Ripper Street," says Macfadyen and co-star Adam Rothenberg ("Alcatraz") are "the two biggest gigglers I've worked with."

"Adam's terrible. He's terrible!" said Macfadyen in an interview earlier this month during the Television Critics Association's winter meetings. "We . . . got to a stage where we couldn't look at each other."

Given how many of their scenes involve dead bodies - Rothenberg plays a former U.S. Army surgeon with a murky past and a few forensics tricks up his sleeve - some gallows humor is understandable.

But then there was "Frost/Nixon," the 2008 film in which Macfadyen played David Frost producer John Birt.

"There's a lot of giggling with Sam Rockwell, Oliver Platt and I, because for much of it we were kind of in the back of shots . . . so there was a lot of naughtiness. And the more serious Frank [Langella, who played Richard Nixon] and Michael [Sheen, who played Frost] were, the more hysterical" the three became, Macfadyen recalled.

Doctor Who did well at last year's awards, with Matt Smtih and co-star Karen Gillan picking up awards for most popular performance, male and female respectively. Despite leaving the show in September, Gillan is nominated again for female perfomance.

Will 'Twelve Years A Slave' Premiere At The Cannes Film Festival? FESTIVALS BY SERGIO (INDIE WIRE)

Of course, we're still quite a few months away before this year's Cannes Film Festival announces its selection of films that will screen, both in and out of competition. But both Tambay and I agree that this is a no-brainer.

Steve McQueen's Twelve Years a Slave for certain, will make its premiere at this year's festival. So how can we be so confident? Well there are several factors in its favor.

First of all, it's an independently made, much talked about and anticipated, high profile film with major stars, about a controversial subject matter made by an equally controversial major director. That's the kind of movie they live for at Cannes.

Second, as I just alluded to, it's got star power: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alfre Woodward, Ruth Negga, Quvenzhane Wallis and Dwight Henry among others. And there's nothing they love more at Cannes than to have movie stars walking up those famous red carpeted steps to the Grande Auditorium on The Palais, for the movie's premiere, with the world's paparazzi out in full force.

And it will be the second trip in a row for both Wallis and Henry, who were at Cannes last year for Beasts of the Southern Wild.

David Tennant leads new RSC season as Richard II (GUARDIAN)

Five years after his critically acclaimed Hamlet, David Tennant is to return to the ranks of the Royal Shakespeare Company in the title role of Richard II.

On Wednesday the RSC's new artistic director Gregory Doran announced details of his first season since taking over from Michael Boyd, with the return of Tennant and adaptations of Hilary Mantel's Thomas Cromwell novels among the highlights.

Doran himself will direct Richard II, following on from their Hamlet in 2008–09 – a production that the Guardian's Michael Billington described as "one of the most richly textured, best-acted versions of the play we have seen in years". While it was a much praised production it was not without its difficulties; chief among them Tennant's prolapsed disc that meant he was unable to perform in the London production for about a month.

Hugh Bonneville: “I Hope ‘Downton’ Ends While We Are Ahead” By Fraser McAlpine | Posted on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 (BBC America)

Here’s a worrying thought.

Hugh Bonneville, star of Downton Abbey, thespian of note and general all-round thinking person’s Lord of the Manor, has expressed a worry that the TV series that not only made him a household name (in places where Downton is a hit, obviously) but also keeps him in hot dinners, should end sooner rather than later.

His concern appears to be keeping the brand alive at the cost of the things that make it a success, namely the period in which it is set, the age and experiences of the characters, and Julian Fellowes’ ability to make the passing of history sit comfortably within the world he has created.

He told the Mail: “I am sure the money men would like it to go on for ever and ever because it does sell extremely well around the world. I think the next series is nudging forward and starts six to eight months ahead from the last and I think we will start to bump into other period dramas if we are not careful time wise.”

By which he presumably means Brideshead Revisited, revisited.

Rosamund Pike: Fashion is mad (BELFAST TELEGRAPH WOMAN)

Tuesday Jan 22 2013

Rosamund Pike loves the "insane" nature of the fashion industry.

The British actress marvelled at the lavishness of the Dior Haute Couture show which she sat front row at in Paris yesterday.

Rosamund gushed about the over-the-top decor and amount of thought that goes into organising a catwalk show, which is all over in a matter of minutes.

"That's what I think is so great about fashion: when people have the budget and the imagination to really create a set that's just ephemeral and just for one day," Rosamund gushed to WWD. "It's insane and it doesn't happen in any other industry."

Rosamund wore a chic black shift dress, grey coat and bare legs to the event, which took place in the capital's Tuileries gardens. The show itself was conducted inside a mirrored box that contained a lush garden themed set, which fellow front rower Jessica Alba was relieved about.

"I love being warm and surrounded by so much greenery," she enthused about being away from the cold.

Henry Cavill 'aims high' for roles, 'Fifty Shades of Grey' could be next (Photos) FIFTY SHADES OF GREYJANUARY 22, 2013BY: BARBIE KAVETSKY

Henry Cavill does not believe in taking things slow when it comes to pursuing his career in acting. The 'Man of Steel' star has a go big or go home attitude which helped him shoot for some high profile roles in Hollywood. Revealing in an interview posted by Voices From Krypton on Jan 21 that he prefers to "aim high." This mentality may be the reason he went from being dubbed "The Unluckiest Man in Hollywood" to "Breakout Star of 2013" and even more reason why he would be up for taking on the role of Christian Grey in the "Fifty Shades" movies.

The interview with Cavill focused on his desire to land the "larger than life roles." Ed Gross, the lucky journalist who spoke with the future Superman, addressed his past failures including his notorious loss of James Bond to actor Daniel Craig. Cavill was able to take away positive insights from the experience saying, "it makes you want to work that much harder."

Michael Fassbender and Jake Gyllenhaal in the running to play Lance Armstrong (entertainment.ie)

Last Saturday we reported the news that there would be a Lance Armstrong biopic coming our way, with Lost creator JJ Abrams at the helm. We then asked you which actor you thought would best portray the cyclist's fall from grace. With tongues already wagging in Hollywood, there's since been a bunch of names thrown into the mix and we couldn't agree more with the following two suggestions; Bradley Cooper and Michael Fassbender. Both have the chops to pull it off, both have the looks and athletic physique too. It's the folk at Ladbrokes who bring us this news, announcing a 3/1 odds for each actor.

When asked by the BBC about the possibility of bringing Armstrong's story to the big screen, Cooper (whose currently enjoying the lead up to the Oscars on the back of his performance in Silver Linings Playbook) expressed his interest by saying: "I think he's fascinating. What a fascinating character. I remember Matt Damon was going to do his autobiography at one point years ago. I remember thinking, that would be a great character, I'd love to play that character. I would love to do something, I think he's pretty fascinating."

NEWS/Downton Abbey Recap: Sybil and Branson Are on the Lam by Christina Dowling Sun., Jan. 20, 2013 8:00 PM PST (E!)

WHAT WE LEARNED
It Was a Dark and Stormy Night: Tom Branson (Allen Leech) brought some rainy weather with him when he crossed the Irish Sea and he has quite the tale to tell. Something that is a surprise to no one who has watched Downton's previous two seasons is that Tom is fighting for an independent Ireland. We might as well admit we are huge nerds for Irish history, but if you aren't caught up you should probably get on Wikipedia so you understand the Maud Gonne, Countess Markievicz and Lady Gregory shout-outs. Long story short he was present—but feeling very guilty—when a country house was burned to the ground. Ruh. Roh.

Turns out that Tom, while he might be wanted for arson, isn't a terrible person who left Sybil pregnant and alone in Ireland. It was all part of the big escape plan. But presumably getting banished from Ireland and stuck at Downton was not. However it is terribly convenient for the Bransons to come back to stay: All the drama is back under one roof!

Out of Favor: Bates (Brendan Coyle) is still walking in circles in the most depressing place in the world. And even worse he hasn't been getting any letters from his dearly devoted wife, Anna (Joanne Froggatt). Bates learns he is actually quite good at working the system in prison. Maybe he's done some hard time before or just watched a lot of Oz.
